Process


Anyone can apply for a PAN Card at any time – irrespective of their age, region, and nationality…even if they are not working. You can apply for PAN Card on behalf of a minor or a newborn too but it has to be signed by a legal parent or guardian.
To apply for New PAN Card:
You can visit the official website of the Income Tax Department (ITD) website and apply for the new PAN Card.

Indians need to apply for a new PAN Card through Form 49A while foreigners can apply for the new PAN Card through Form 49AA. While applying for the form, you will need copy of at least one of the following as the Proof of Identity (POI):
  • 1. Bank Account Statement
  • 2. Degree of Recognized Educational Institution
  • 3. Depository Account Statement
  • 4. Driving License
  • 5. Matriculation Certificate
  • 6. Passport
  • 7. Property Tax Assessment Order
  • 8. Ration Card
  • 9. School Leaving Certificate
  • 10. Valid Credit Card
  • 11. Voter's Identity Card
  • 12. Water Bill

  • at least one of the following as the Proof of Address (POA):
  • 1. Bank account statement
  • 2. Credit card statement
  • 3. Depository account statement
  • 3. Driving license
  • 4. Electricity bill
  • 5. Passport
  • 6. Property tax assessment order
  • 7. Ration card
  • 8. Rent receipt
  • 9. Telephone bill
  • 10. Voter's identity card

  • If an Indian citizen is outside India while applying for the PAN Card, he or she can submit the copy of passport as identity proof and one of the following as address proof:
  • Bank account statement in country of residence
  • NRE bank account statement
  • Passport

  • If a foreign citizen is in India while applying for the PAN Card, he or she can show one of the following as identity proof:
  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card issued by Government of India

  • one of the following as address proof:
  • 1. Bank account statement in India
  • 2. NRE bank account statement
  • 3. Passport
  • 4. Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card issued by Government of India
  • 5. Registration certificate issued by the Foreigner's Registration Officer
  • 6. Residential permit issued by the State Police Authorities
  • 7. Visa application to Indian authorities, Visa granted to him or her; appointment letter or contract from Indian Company; & Original Certificate of address in India granted by the
  • employer on the official letter head mentioning the PAN Card number of the employer and copy of that PAN Card too
