Value Added Tax (VAT) is a simple, modern and progressive form of Sales Tax. Delhi VAT (DVAT) replaced four existing taxes:
1. Delhi Sales Tax Act 1975,
2. Delhi Sales Tax on Transfer to Right to use Goods Act, 2002,
3. Delhi Sales Tax on Works Contract Act, 1999, and
4 Delhi Tax on Entry of Motors Vehicles into Local Areas Act 1994.
DVAT is considered business-friendly tax and offers a uniformity to tax structure in India and hence, is preferable to the tax forms prevalent earlier. DVAT Registration applies to all types of businesses - including Importers, Manufacturers, Distributors, Wholesalers, Retailers, Work Contractors and Lessors.
